WC Smith Timberland Services handles my client’s timber sale in a timely manner and with professionalism. The trees marked to be left were not damaged and the constructed roads were left in much better shape than found, with broad-based dips and turnouts installed where necessary. His frequent phone calls to me were assurance that he wanted the job completed to the landowner’s satisfaction. – Jack Catlin – Catlin Foestry Services, LLC; Forestry Consultant/Timber Buyer
When the time came to harvest timber on our property, we felt very fortunate that someone had recommended to us Ed Baxter. Ours was not an easy site. The Terrain was hilly and road improvements were required just to access a portion of the land. We had unprecedented months of heavy rain causing continuous problems with mud. I had also requested in the contract some cosmetic improvements around our lake after harvesting, wanting to take advantage of equipment being on our land. Ed followed through with all of these. From the very beginning, when we walked the property with Ed, and throughout the long process of harvesting and supervision of the after-harvest activity, Ed has been accessible by phone, willing to meet us on site, patient with our endless questions, and incredibly helpful and informative on issues of replanting. He usually answers our calls in person, but when we do leave a message, he never fails to return our calls. We can’t imagine having picked a better person to help us through this process. We are very grateful. – Paul and Leslie Meiere – Banks County Land owner, 2016.
Ed Baxter and W.C. Smith Pulpwood Co. did an excellent job harvesting our marketable timber in Jackson County, Ga. Our goal was to remove merchantable timber while leaving select hardwoods to reflect a “real estate” cut in order to facilitate hunting and recreation. Ed listened to our objectives and did a fantastic job managing the timber crew to deliver a finished product that matched our expectations. Payments were made timely and on schedule. Ed made sure the timber crew kept the site clean and secure. I would definitely use Ed and W.C. Smith Pulpwood again for future timbering jobs. – Hardman Knox, General Manager Knox Properties
I am happy to give Ed Baxter and W. C. Smith Timberland Services my highest endorsement. I have some investment land from which I needed to realize some income, but without damaging the future value or of the property. Ed Baxter walked the land with me, gave me detailed information on how, where, and what trees his company would cut, and explained to me fully how their harvesting of the timber would proceed and how it would affect the land. When they were done, the land looked beautiful—almost park-like—and they cleaned up their workspace and took care to establish erosion barriers as required by best timbering practices. They helped me realize the highest possible profits from my stand of timber, without damaging my land or its future value. I am very pleased with their work, and recommend them highly to others. — Paul & Nancy Jones 2016
We were first time sellers of standing timber. We were completely unfamiliar with the whole process. We did our homework and interviewed many possible harvesting companies. Our timber was a mature hardwood stand. We did not want to clear cut, but needed to generate income. Trust was our #1 priority. Ed and his company provided that from beginning to end. We reccomend them highly especially thinning mature hardwood stands. ~Holly Lowry, Mary Lester 2011
I contracted with Ed Baxter of W.C.Smith’s Timberland services in the summer of 2011 to do a first thinning of a 211 acre tract. We had sold timber a few years previous and were were not satisfied. Needless to say we were apprehensive about the sale of this parcel. Ed came with a good recommendation, so we went with their company. Our tract required a lot of interior road construction to facilitate a logging operation. We were well pleased with the effort Ed and his crew put int road and waterway construction. They did everything to minimize erosion, and were cooperative with our hunting club to maximize our wildlife management. Payment was prompt and clean up after the operation exceeded expectation. ~Pat Glenn 2011
We purchased land in hall county that had excellent pockets of mature quality hardwoods. We began talking with Ed Baxter and exploring our options. Ed was very patient answering a lot of questions. He wanted us to feel great about all phases of the transaction, and worked hard to get us top market value for our forest products. We recommend them to anyone in Northeast Georgia who might be considering the sale of their timber. -Wes Newberry 2011
